FINRA Large Arbitration Pilot Program

I have been meaning to write about this for a while.  On July 2, 2012, FINRA launched its pilot program for large arbitrations.  The program allows both parties to pick arbitrators outside of the FINRA pool.  This program is designed for large and complex arbitrations that require specialized knowledge.  Indeed, FINRA stated that there are over 200 cases pending that have damage claims over $10M and a handful with claims over $100M.

I called FINRA and discovered that there is no special roster to register for this pool.

The FINRA press release can be found here.  A Reuters article can be found here.
